To begin with, I want to say it. I love dressing well, I love living well, I love travelling well, I love style, I love class, distinction, refinement, and everything that accompanies them, such as cuisine (starting with the diverse cuisine of beautiful countryAs a scholar of art, both fine and applied, contemporary and historical, I am for culture, transformation, and experiment.
However. At the same time. I am for the preservation of the Amazon rainforest, as it is, just as I am for the celebration of Bomarzo and Pratolino, the Park of Caserta and Venaria Reale in Turin; just as I am for the ibexes of Gran Paradiso and for the roar of the red Prancing Horses. Contradiction? No! Dialectic of human ingenuity and labour, of preserving and innovating, therefore against waste, consumerism and sweeping the toxic dust and waste under the carpet in the Land of Fires.
In Chile, in the Atacama Desert, there is a textile dump, piled up in the open air, waiting to decompose, which takes 200, yes, 200 years, and thus layers upon layers, degradation upon degradation, of discredited fast fashion that brings to this land of incredible beauty, garments from past seasons and second-hand ones, that no one wants, not even to recycle, because it would cost too much and it's better to make new things, which will then meet the same fate. The bulimia of more and more, more and more leads to the horror of producing for the landfill, which is a contradiction in terms, but it is the sense of delirium, of putting an expiry date on everything; every label has an expiry date and if that's not enough Hidden persuaders, multimedia will do the rest to make you hate what is still good, useful, cheap, but must disappear quickly, without giving sustainable circularity the time to do what in past centuries made Prato (in our Tuscany) golden from rags!
