Hourglass | Mystery. Almost Mystery. Reality. Lagerfeld.

KLESSIDRA | EDITED BY FRANCESCO GALLO MAZZEO

K.L.'s greatest and most enduring artistic invention is called Lagerfeld, thanks to his sacred obsession with being photographed in hieratic, solemn poses, which granted nothing at all to the confiding, to privacy. Always a proud gaze, projected towards the horizon of beauty, harmony, and style. Karl, by Marie Ottavi, finally released in Italian, presents him in a long series of sharp, detached snapshots, in a paradoxical, surprising discontinuity, which returns a unitary essence of his entire biography, indefinable, mythical, poetic, made of a wholly personal, surprising alchemy. A capacity to translate, into enigmatic clothes, into starring accessories, into magical perfumes, into an anabasis of golden apprehensions, his lucid madness, imbued with a subdued desirability, an enchanting effect; all maieutic fruits and metamorphoses of his bibliophilia, of forms and contents, made from an architectural crowd of books, meticulously scattered everywhere, on shelves, tables, floors, and wherever his desire to be, of aesthetics, philosophy, poetry, narrative, psychology, could be placed.

A high sense of refinement, which for him, in name and form, is his lightness, his etherealness, from the height of his white collars and the look of his dark glasses; as if to say, the other, the biographical, indispensable element, for the first to exist – the creative one, who makes visible the ghost of the mind, the genius, who is never a voice crying in the wilderness, but one who artistically senses how everyone's life is sowing, maturing, reaping, but also scattering and changing; in essence, an assembler of richness, a conservator and innovator, capable of synthesising the two elements upon which the visionary personality is founded, which is not that of a superman, but of a special person. In this way, they are able to interpret the hopes that fly in the air and turn them into concretions, companions to our lives, to reflect, to desire, to please and to feel good; a special interpreter of the fashion system, he and others, like Versace, Valentino, Armani, who have made it their mission to make real so many dreams of reverie, made with the ardours of Love and Psyche.
