The work

In Volare lontano, Claudio Rolfi depicts a group of hot air balloons rising in the sky above a vast landscape, creating a suspended and silent scene. The light figures of the balloons stand out against the open space, becoming the focal point of a composition characterized by balance, depth, and soft colors. The landscape, treated with the artist’s usual essentialism, contributes to building a rarefied atmosphere in which time seems to slow down.

The hot air balloons here assume their recurring symbolic value: they represent the desire for escape, freedom, and the possibility of looking at reality from a new perspective. The title Volare lontano reinforces this evocative dimension, suggesting the idea of a journey not only physically but also internally. Through his characteristic “synthetic realism,” Rolfi thus transforms an apparently everyday landscape into a poetic vision, where memory, tranquility, and melancholy coexist in a timeless atmosphere.

Claudio Rolfi

Claudio Rolfi was born in Genoa on September 12, 1960. He attended the art high school in Turin, a city in which he lived for a few years before moving to Mondovì, his father’s hometown. From the very first works, the great fascination that Italian art of the 1900s has been able to exert on him is undeniably evident, so much so that it has made him recall themes dear to great masters such as Felice Casorati, Carlo Carrà and Giorgio de Chirico. Over time, his painting has developed through metaphysical and magical realism, then transformed today, after a careful artistic research, into a highly personal and extremely engaging form of synthetic realism, in which both views and peripheral areas of cities, bridges, rivers, industrial structures, plains and symbolic balloons predominate. In addition to the many personal exhibitions and countless group exhibitions, he participates in special television programs produced by some art galleries. Rolfi also participates in the most important Italian art fairs in the sector, such as Padova, Genoa, Pavia, Cremona and Bergamo. There are numerous publications and catalogues that talk about his painting work. Some leading national newspapers, such as La Stampa, La Repubblica, Messaggero, Osservatore Romano and Secolo XIX, have dedicated pages to his artistic research. His works are present in public and private collections such as banks, hospitals, industries, municipalities and national and international foundations. In 2014, he collaborated with Casa d’Arte San Lorenzo and the television broadcast “In galleria”, conducted and curated by the Mazzoleni Foundation, to present his personal exhibition in his gallery in Alzano Lombardo. The artist’s paintings have also been selected by the Mazzoleni Foundation for the inauguration of the new gallery at the JW Marriott Resort in Venice and for the summer season 2015 at the prestigious Forte Village Resort in Sardinia. In 2015, at the exhibition curated by Sangiorgio Arte International in Bellinzona (Switzerland), his works were displayed alongside two of the greatest Italian masters of the twentieth century: Mario Sironi and Aligi Sassu. In the same year, he began collaborating with Alessandro Orlando of the Orlando Arte gallery, with exhibitions and numerous special television programs. From 2017, he collaborated with Canova Arte, which promotes his work in Italy and abroad, organizing an exhibition at the Mondadori Megastore with a Mondadori Canova catalog presented by Angelo Crespi. In 2019, he participated in the exhibition Sogni Metafisici in Baveno, as part of the international event BAM Baveno Arte Maggiore curated by Vittorio Sgarbi.
