The work
With Paperone – Human Scrooge, Vincent reworks one of the most iconic figures of popular imagination by transforming Uncle Paperone into a universal symbol of wealth, ambition, and the desire for possession. The instantly recognizable character is extracted from its narrative context and brought into a more contemporary dimension, where money not only represents a form of wealth but also a status and an identity element.
The work reflects Vincent’s poetic style, based on the reinterpretation of icons of mass culture through the aesthetic codes of Pop Art, luxury, and consumer culture. The choice of Paperone introduces an ironic and at the same time critical component: the figure of the famous billionaire becomes a kind of mirror of contemporary society, in which the value of objects is often linked to their ability to convey prestige and desirability. Vincent thus plays on the boundary between art, pop culture, and collectible objects, transforming a familiar image into a reflection on the relationship between the individual, wealth, and consumption.
The artist
Vincent
Vincenzo De Cillis, aka Vincent, was born in Salento in 1984 and lives and works in Parma, where he moved to study. After a legal training, in 2020 he chose to dedicate himself entirely to artistic practice, developing a personal language strongly linked to Pop Art, popular culture and the luxury imaginary. His research stems from the meeting between pop culture, technical precision and artisanal attention, giving rise to paintings made by hand and sculptures in resin. Through the reworking of icons of contemporary culture, characters from comic books and symbols from the world of luxury, Vincent creates works with an immediate impact, in which irony and aesthetic research are accompanied by a reflection on the concepts of desire, consumption, possession and status. The use of precious materials and refined finishes contributes to defining a recognizable stylistic signature, suspended between art, design and collector's item.
